to Latest News 2003 News Archives > 10/31/03 Trick or Treat? Um, my computer was broken. I, um, had trouble logging on to the internet. There haven't been updates here for the past 3 months because... well, basically... I've been lazy. Not lazy, like, lazy. Just lazy with the web updates. I've actually been quite busy. So busy that I didn't have time to update my web site... yeah, that's it! Well, Edmonton was fun and some of you Canadians will probably be seeing me on It's a Living re-runs for the rest of time. I got home from Edmonton with a minor head injury (I don't want to talk about it!) and jumped right back into the local gigs and street performing. I've been doing a fair amount of gigs, but spending every other waking moment working on my house trying to finish some outdoor projects before it starts to snow. That's right... Not only can I juggle and stand on various precarious objects, but I've also learned that I am pretty good at refinishing floors, painting, pouring concrete, planting trees and shrubs, building raised beds, laying flagstone, general masonry, and solving drainage problems. I just have to find a way to work this stuff into my show and I can start to deduct all these tools on my taxes. So, I'm back. It's been a beautiful autumn in Boston and I still have quite a few gigs lined up for the rest of the year. And once it gets too cold to dig in my garden, I'll be back here working on web projects! It never ends. Happy Halloween! 7/01/03 Off to Edmonton... and more Jim Press! I'm headed to Edmonton, Alberta for 10 days of busking from July 3-July 13. I'm looking forward to playing up there again. It will not rain, it will not rain, it will not rain... I'll be home on July 15 so please don't hate me if I can't get to your emails while I'm away. (I'll be doing about 35-40 performances in 10 days and I'll be kind of preoccupied.) Northwestern Canada, here I come. Yippee. Now that the latest issue of Boston Magazine is on the shelves, I've put a scan of my article from last month up here for you to check out: (Boston Magazine Article) It's kinda big (335k) but it's readable and printable. You know; so you can print it... and frame it. Last week I was on a live television talk show called "Nitebeat" with Barry Nolan. It's a program on the Comcast cable station CN8 (In the Northeast USA... bigger than cable access, but not totally nationwide.) It was quite interesting. The first part of the show was a heated discussion about hate with members of The National Alliance and Nation of Islam. Then they cleared the set and I was introduced for a light discussion on juggling and street performing. Talk about random! When I get back from Canada, I'll try to get the video up here. Now I've got to go pack! 5/29/03 Boston Magazine, June 2003 Issue, Page 24 Go see for yourself... I'm published! (The scan will be up here at the end of the month, but if you can, I urge you to go buy the magazine to read my one page article on street performing. If they sell a lot of copies this month, maybe they'll let me write more in the future!) 5/07/03 Street Performing in Boston has begun! I have started performing down at Quincy Market again and so far it has been great. Nice weather, nice crowds and fun shows. I think people are just excited to be outside again without needing hats and mittens. I've posted my May spots (so far) and I'll be updating that page if anything else comes up. Don't forget to stop by Quincy Market for the annual Street Performers Festival on May 24, 25, 26. Check back here the week of the festival for my actual time slots. And say hello after the shows! 4/09/03 Busy Spring season; too bad it's still Winter... I can't believe the weather we're having in Boston. This has been the longest, coldest, and snowiest winter I can remember since I moved here 12 years ago. It's almost mid-April and it snowed all day today. Urgh. Luckily I'm heading south for the weekend for a gig (first time performing in NC) and to visit some friends along the way. I'm also going to try to stop by the juggling convention in DC on Sunday. It should be a fun trip. When I get back, the craziness of gig season begins. It had better be Spring in Boston when I get home... 1/29/03 Finally the Upcoming Gigs page is updated! It has been a slow winter for gigs (I've been keeping myself busy doing other things) but things are picking up. I'm off to Florida next weekend for a busking festival and in March, I'll be doing a big public show in Arlington, MA at the Regent Theater. Stay tuned for more gig announcements very soon. 1/29/03 People are learning to juggle! Last year, for fun, I put up this page offering online juggling instruction. At first, a few people wrote in saying it worked and I noticed a fair amount of traffic to the page, but lately, it's the most visited page on my site! People are Googling right in from all over the world. If you've learned to juggle from this page, please let me know and I'll be adding a page of success stories in a month or so. 1/29/03 Where have you been Jim??? So if you're wondering why this page hasn't been updated in three months it's because I've been incredibly busy NOT being The Jim Show! I took the end of November and all of December and January off to work on my house. It's actually been quite fun and I learned a lot about plumbing, electrical wiring, painting and re-finishing hardwood floors. I finished about a week ago and I'm still finding paint specks in my hair and other interesting places every day. Now it's back to business! << Back to Latest News Jim Show News Archive - 2002 >> |
